Retropharyngeal abscess

 

Case Summary: Child with Fever, Neck Stiffness and Pain

A child presented with fever, neck stiffness, and significant neck pain.

Ultrasound Findings:
Ultrasound examination revealed marked thickening with heterogeneous echogenic content in the retropharyngeal region, suggestive of a retropharyngeal collection.

Further Evaluation:
A contrast-enhanced CT scan of the neck was performed (elsewhere) for confirmation, which supported the diagnosis of a retropharyngeal abscess.

Management and Outcome:
The patient subsequently underwent surgical drainage, leading to appropriate clinical management of the infection.

Membranous/Bulbar Urethral Calculus

Case Summary: Acute Urinary Retention due to Urethral Calculus

A young male patient presented with acute inability to pass urine and was referred for an ultrasound examination of the whole abdomen for further evaluation.

Ultrasound Findings:
A focused perineal ultrasound approach was performed. A well-defined echogenic focus was identified in the bulbar/membranous urethra, consistent with a urethral calculus, likely responsible for the patient’s urinary obstruction.

Impression:
Urethral calculus causing acute urinary retention.
